Originating in South America, and known there as "pepa de zapallo" (which means "pumpkin seed"), tiger eye beans grow in a low bush and are very easy to grow. These are wonderful beans to use in cooking chili.

PLANT DESCRIPTION: (Phaseolus vulgaris) The plant features vibrant, elongated pods with a unique pattern resembling the eye of a tiger, hence its name. The pods typically measure about 5-6 inches in length and display a combination of yellow and purple hues. The plant itself is compact, reaching a height of around 18-24 inches, making it suitable for smaller gardens or container cultivation.
