The 'Black Prince' Snapdragon, known scientifically as Antirrhinum majus 'Black Prince', is a striking variety of snapdragon that is prized for its unique and dramatic appearance.  The 'Black Prince' Snapdragon features deep burgundy or almost black flowers, which are highly unusual and sought after for their bold, rich color. This dark hue is more intense than most other snapdragon varieties, making it a standout choice for gardeners looking to add depth and contrast to their floral displays.

Like many snapdragons, the 'Black Prince' can vary in height, but it generally falls within the medium to tall range for the species. This makes it suitable for the back of flower beds or as a striking element in container gardens.  Snapdragons, including the 'Black Prince', typically bloom in the cooler months of spring and fall. In some climates, they can even continue blooming into the winter, providing a much-needed splash of color in otherwise barren gardens. The foliage of the 'Black Prince' Snapdragon is a dark green, which complements its dark flowers and adds to the plant's overall dramatic appearance.

Like other snapdragons, 'Black Prince' prefers cooler temperatures and can be grown as a perennial in USDA hardiness zones 7-11. In cooler zones, it is often treated as an annual. The plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and requires well-drained soil. Due to its striking appearance, 'Black Prince' is often used in ornamental gardens for its aesthetic appeal. It can also be used in cut flower arrangements, where its unique color can add depth and intrigue.

Regular watering, especially during dry spells, and occasional fertilization will help 'Black Prince' Snapdragons thrive. Deadheading, or removing spent flowers, can encourage more blooms and extend the blooming period.

The 'Black Prince' Snapdragon is a distinctive and elegant choice for gardeners looking to add a touch of drama and sophistication to their planting schemes. Its unique color and classic form make it a favorite among those looking to create visually impactful gardens.
