Growing 5 feet tall with large flowers up to 3 inches across, this Mexican marigold species, is also called cempasúchil, cempazúchitl, or Aztec marigold. The Shades of Gold marigold is closely associated with Mexican Day of the Dead ceremonies. It has a long tradition of medicinal uses as well.
Marigolds are used in companion planting for many vegetable crops. Its root secretions are believed to kill nematodes in the soil, and it is said to repel harmful insects, such as white flies on tomatoes.
