With flowers that are usually vibrant red, Lobelia cardinalis is a perennial native to North America from Quebec south to Florida. This herbaceous plant grows up to 4 feet tall and a foot wide, and is found in wet places, streambanks, swamps and in low wooded areas.
Germination Tips:
Mix seeds and soil together in a ziplock bag. Write the name of the seed on the bag. Place in the refrigerator for 60 days. Seed should be sown into well-drained, sandy compost and covered to their own depth with sand or grit. Place the seed tray in filtered light and keep moist. Seeds germinate very slowly and may take more than a year to germinate. This one will require a well-drained, rich soil kept moist for best results. It likes full sun to part shade and will benefit from any wind protection. Zones 3-9
