The Goldenball Turnip is an heirloom variety of turnip known for its distinctive golden-yellow skin and flesh. It is prized for its mild, sweet flavor and tender texture, making it a favorite for fresh eating, roasting, or mashing. This variety is an excellent choice for gardeners seeking a unique and visually striking turnip with a mild, versatile flavor. As its name suggests, the slightly sweet roots of this heirloom turnip are beautifully round with a golden glow. A fast grower, it's mild, smooth flesh can be eaten raw or cooked.

Key Features: Round to slightly oval-shaped appearance with a vibrant golden-yellow color that stands out in the garden. Typically grows to about 3–4 inches in diameter, though it can be harvested smaller for baby turnips. Sweet and mild, with less of the peppery bite often associated with turnips. Fine-grained and firm, yet tender when cooked.

Growth Habit: Compact and suitable for smaller gardens or container growing. Quick to mature, typically ready for harvest in about 55–70 days. Best grown in cool seasons; it thrives in spring and fall when temperatures are moderate.

Growing Tips: Prefers loose, well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Sow seeds directly in the garden as they do not transplant well. Thin seedlings to allow room for root development. Consistent watering is important to maintain a tender texture and prevent the roots from becoming woody. Can be harvested at various stages, from baby turnips to mature roots.

Culinary options include being grated raw into salads or eaten as a snack. Roasted, steamed, or mashed for a creamy dish. The greens are also edible and can be cooked like other leafy greens.
