(Packed for 2025)

Diospyros lotus, commonly known as the Caucasian persimmon, is a species of tree belonging to the genus Diospyros within the family Ebenaceae. Native to the Caucasus region, particularly areas such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Iran, this tree is known for its edible fruit.

The Caucasian persimmon typically grows to be a small to medium-sized deciduous tree, reaching heights of up to 15 meters (50 feet) tall. It has a rounded crown and glossy green leaves that turn yellow-orange in autumn before falling off.

The fruit of the Caucasian persimmon is a key attraction. It is spherical to slightly flattened in shape, and when ripe, it turns from green to a vibrant orange-red color. The fruit is known for its sweet, rich flavor with hints of honey and spice. The texture of the fruit can vary from firm when unripe to soft and jelly-like when fully ripe.

In terms of cultivation, the Caucasian persimmon prefers well-drained soils and full sunlight. It is hardy and can tolerate a range of climates, although it thrives best in temperate regions. The tree is typically grown for its ornamental value as well as for its fruit.

The Caucasian persimmon has been cultivated for centuries in its native range, and it holds cultural significance in the region. It is also cultivated in other parts of the world with suitable climates for its growth, particularly for its delicious fruit.
